There is an official survey that Mongolia has 63tonnes (63000kg = 138892pound) resource of uranium. By this it ranked at the 15th place in world.
Now Parliament is discussing about exporting the yellow soil’s powder of the first process of the uranium.
Not only the resource of the coal, petroleum and gas were decreased but also the negative effect on people’s health and environment was increased in the last 100year around the world because of the intensive mining and exploitation. Regarding this the manufacture of the nuclear energy has risen abruptly.
The “Zuuni medee” newspaper published that the world’s biggest research organizations made a conclusion that the Mongolia can become the center of the global nuclear energy. So it makes clearly that Mongolia has become the main attraction geopolitically.
People are already talking about that Nuclear power station is less dangerous than the power station that uses coal. The fuel is extracted from the 50% of the yellow powder. It is already started to extract by 95% of the Uranium’s yellow powder.
Altangerel. P, the Member of Parliament talked about the importance of the uranium “France and Japan are more interested in uranium than the Russia and China. Uranium is considered that it is the political mineral resource rather than the economic. Energy can become by the most unharmed and the cheapest source. If Mongolia will start to produce the energy by mining the uranium, the greenhouse gas and air pollution that worries all people in the world will not be a problem. There is an info that the energy shortage will happen in 2020-2025 worldwide. Our neighbour Russia and China have high power consumption. Mongolia has a lot of raw material inventory of the main energy. If we pass a right policy and law, it can become our country’s main economic lever. The feature of the uranium is to use it under scrutiny.
By the world standard using the uranium with 3 countries regards as keeping under whole scrutiny. It is our main purpose to mine the uranium and produce the final product by ourselves.”
In 2008, 146 license of the uranium exploration were given in Mongolian territory, 60 % of them considered to be in Mongolian part but the owner is indefinite. “Mongolian news” newspaper mentioned that there are over 10 foreign invested companies are working in uranium exploration.
The administrative office of the mineral resource conducted regular examination and abstained the activity of the companies with license of the uranium exploration for 3 months.
License is the only permission of the uranium exploration. But presuming on the weak side of our law, Canadian “Western Prospern” company in Gurvan bulag soum of Dornod aimag float shares and by selling it on the Russian stock exchange they make a high profit. The company sell Mongolian uranium resource under the name that they possess 75% of shares. So there are many cases when under the pretext of making exploration, companies took license, made report and announce that they have a lot of assets and sell the Mongolian recourses. Government expressed to the Parliament that they have a policy to keep the foreign countries interest in Uranium deposit in equilibrium. Currently Russia, China, USA, Japan, France and India expressed their interest in investment of the uranium exploration.
The Government started to make an agreement with the French “Areva” and Japanese “Marubeni” companies. China is leading in the amount of the investment. The government made a conclusion on this and postponed the project which was to establish a “Monatam” company with Russia.
Prime Minister Bayar.S will discuss about cooperating in Mongolian uranium exploration with Japan during the visit in Tokyo by the invitation of the Japanese Government on August,2009.
